I love doing passion projects because I get the chance to test out new things, like Shopify's 9 new themes, and it can be just plain fun.
I got inspired for this one when I stumbled on a brand board in Canva. It looked like a fun and fresh brand. I searched for related product pictures on Canva and came up with a lot of fun product photos. I was ready to get started.
Brand Board designed by Canva
I decided to use the brand board as inspiration to design a Shopify website.
My Design Process
When designing for a client, I spend time to understand the client's goals and putting together a brand kit using Canva. This makes it easy to design mock ups and images for the client's website.
After all the branding is put into Canva, I create the mockups of the main pages of the website. Next, I export all the graphics needed using Canva and Photoshop.
I make sure that the graphics are a good size and yet clear and crisp enough to still look good on the website.
I always create a mood board in Shopify that my client can refer to even after I've completed the project. It helps for us to see how all the elements look with the colors we are using on the site.
The Home Page was fun to create. I usually use much muted colors in my branding so it was fun to try a different bolder look.
This design took me a two days, and I tested out 4 themes to find which one was best to showcase the product. Shopify makes it easy to try out themes, and t his can be especially useful before you buy a theme. In the end I chose the free Crave theme, which is one of the 9 new themes by Shopify.
